Esther and Eugene had such a fabulous winter wedding! I will have to hand it to their amazing wedding party for heading out into the cold - I had to include a shot of poor Esther's frozen toes in this post below! The day was filled with traditions which allowed for plenty of great moments - all events took place at the Hyatt Deerfield with a quick escape to Lake Forest for portraits. Thanks again for being such a fun laid back crew!

Laura and Grant had the perfect mix of romantic wedding details infused with Holiday cheer. They kicked off their day at Naperville Covenant Church where the girls couldn't stop dancing around with excitement! We then piled into the warm trolley for a short tour of downtown Naperville. We managed to hit the streets at sunset creating a magical blue sky transitioning into a wonderland of lights!! The celebration continued at White Eagle Golf Club complete with a warm fireplace, upside down Christmas tree, cranberries, candles, and ornaments used as place cards (as well as earings!). I'll share all the fun details later this week - stay tuned!!

Nicole + Dan :: Romantic Naperville Winter Wedding

Where do I even begin!! What an amazing day Nicole and Dan had this past weekend. Surrounded by the most loving family and friends - everyone was filled with joy and laughter. Nicole and Dan had their first meeting at White Eagle Golf Club in Naperville (thank you to everyone for braving the cold!!) We then headed over to the Naper Settlement for a romantic evening ceremony in the Chapel. The party continued at Meson Sabika where the ballroom as transformed into an elegant city lounge - creating the perfect atmosphere for (my favorite) candid moments!! Don't you worry - I will be doing a post later in the week to better feature all the beautiful details and the all-star vendor list!

Last Saturday we were graced with 70 degrees and although I didn't have a wedding I was glad to be enjoying the awesome weather with Emily and Geoff for their engagement session. We hit up a variety of locations allowing me to capture their fun-loving personalities. The afternoon was filled with "paddling," air guitar, dance moves on the pier, impromptu leaves fight, all ending at Sheffield's where these two originally met. Thanks again for a great shoot and I can't wait for more fun moments next Summer at the wedding!!

Saturday was such a blast getting to know Jessica + Dan's family and friends. This past weekend we cruised out to Rockford for a wonderful day with Stephanie and Jeremy. Jenn and Rick had a classic Chicago, vintage glamor, inspired day complete with a good luck shower of rain and plenty of fun-filled moments. We had a blast hanging out on the trolley listening to our personal DJ/tour guide extraordinaire. After portraits at our super secret rain location we headed to Holy Family for a romantic evening ceremony. Then off to Chicago Yacht Club which was transformed by the beautiful work of Sylvia's Flowers. Thank you to everyone for letting me in to capture such loving moments.

When I was out Monday with John and Jody I swear we were in the middle of fall - the weather was beautiful, the light was glowing and at one point it looked as if some trees were already turning. I can't believe how fast summer has flown by!! It's hard to miss the love and devotion these two have for each other. Their excitement and happiness was beaming throughout our entire tour of Morton Arboretum. I am really looking forward to their big day - I just know it will be overflowing with wonderful heartfelt moments!

What a wonderful day we had with Kelly and Marcos. I met Kelly at her parents home to get ready and then ventured to the first meeting with Marcos at St. Vincent Ferrer in River Forest. After their heartfelt ceremony we loaded the trolley for an adventure (to say the least). A quick stop at Kinzie Street Bridge then back out to Rosemont for their surprisingly very scenic reception at Victoria Banquets. I had a lot of fun getting to know Cynthia and Anthony last week. The two of them really love Chicago Architecture so we took a little walking tour of the Museum Campus and Union Station. You of course all know our friends Kirstin and Kara (Smitten Boutique and Magnificent Milestones) well recently MSNBC.com did a feature on these two ladies which I just had to share for two reasons. Reason #1 - They're just so fun and I thought you all would love the inside scoop. Reason #2 - I managed to get a cameo! You'll see me with my camera backpack entering the boutique as they were filming - this was the same day I went in to shoot their window display for our other friends Natalie and Vita (Hello Darling Floral.) Oh and you'll also recognize their portrait I took for their ADORABLE merger announcement. Too much fun!!

Zori + Malik :: Chicago Wedding :: Prairie Production

July 3rd was filled with excitement as Zori and Malik tied the knot at one of my favorite venues in Chicago, Prairie Production. It was so fun shooting for Zori and Malik - it reminded me how important it is for the Bride and Groom to run their own day and not to let the day run them. My duties for the afternoon/early evening was capturing the ceremony and unique portraits around the city. They even found an awesome car for our photo session which was a fun little story all in itself. Since we did spend about 2 hours on our photo shoot I have many great portraits to share - I'll be sure to post more next week. Congrats you two!!

This past weekend we ventured out to Rockford and managed to dodge the rain for a fabulous day with Sara and Adam. The day was filled with love from family - one of my favorite quotes from the day had to be during toasts when it was announced there was officially more Derry's in the Carlson family then Carlsons (the Carlson sisters married the Derry brothers) needless to say this family is so close which lead to many fun moments throughout the day. Toward the end of the night Sara and Adam had a special surprise up their sleeves for their adorable niece who turned "1" on the big day! Reception: Rockford Country Club

I had a wonderful memorial day weekend wedding with Alison and Tom. They were blessed with the most beautiful weather which completed their intimate garden reception. We started off the day at St. Anne's in Barrington for the ceremony - the light flooding in around them was just perfect. The garden reception was held at Alison and Tom's home - where they do all the gardening themselves - I loved how they were able to incorporate their passion for gardening/nature into their special day. Every detail was of course 80's including arcade games, delicious appetizers and deserts circa 1980's, staff was dressed in black T-shirts with famous 80's sayings, guests played in the photo booth, zebra prints with hot pink/orange, music videos playing behind the bar, Spiked Tang was flowing, and what 80's party would be complete without guests dressing as their favorite 80's characters!! Last month I participated in the 2nd Annual CHAOS WEEK (DIY Concept/Create/Capital Fashion and Art Networking Event) at Columbia College Chicago. I was honored to be able to share my experiences of starting/owning my own business. Many students were able to ask first hand about my marketing, shooting style, and how I got started in the biz. It was fun to be able to show that it is possible to be successful with your art. Here are some quick shots I took during the event - there was screen printing, button making, as well as, a panel discussion. EARTH DAY!!!

As many of you know I love the outdoors. Camping, hiking, kayaking, snow shoeing, swimming, sailing, and of course kite flying!! Here are some shots of my niece over Easter weekend while we enjoyed the gorgeous weather. Celebrate Earth Day big or small - this weekend is supposed to be perfect so there's no excuses even if it's just a small walk around the block or enjoying morning coffee on the porch. Take time to soak in our environment, take in a deep breath of fresh air, take note of the emerging buds on trees, listen for the birds in the morning. Help keep our land beautiful for future generations. Here are some small ideas to build into your everyday lifestyle: bring a reusable water bottle to work, bring your own mug to your favorite coffee joint (you might even get a discount!), use cloth grocery bags, if there's a piece of trash that missed the can pick it up, use public transportation or carpool - take time to appreciate the small things and experience the joy our land has to offer.

The two were in from LA putting the final touches into place for their Chicago wedding in May. A few weeks back I was asked by our friends at A Perfect Event to take detail shots of a bridal event at The James Hotel. For those of you that are not familiar with The James, it's located just steps from Michigan Avenue and within walking distance to many of Chicago's hot spots. They are also making a commitment to be earth friendly by incorporating in-room recycling programs and offering a complimentary bicycle for guests. The James can accommodate up to 200 guests in their event space - which makes it ideal for a smaller ceremony/reception. For me intimate weddings are so fun. I love getting to know my clients, their families, and friends. Being so closely involved in the event allows for such personal moments to be captured with ease. Don't get me wrong I manage to find these moments at weddings large and small, but there's something about an intimate gathering that excites me. Here are some shots from the event.

Another wonderful wedding, as usual, at A New Leaf this past weekend. Matt and Jill were graced with beautiful weather and I was so glad to take advantage of the patio area for portraits. We had wonderful lighting during their candle-lit sunset ceremony and rocked the night away with tunes courtesy of Toast and Jam. We had a beautiful Saturday with Todd and Kristin. Ceremony started off the day at St. Raymond's in Mt Prospect followed by an always lovely reception at Makray Golf Club in Barrington. Todd and Kristin brought personal touches in throughout the day which only added to the outpouring of love and support these two have - not only from their family and friends but for eachother. This past Sunday I had the pleasure of working beside a few other leading industry professionals in an event hosted by Kara of Magnificent Milestones : Wedding and Event Consulting. Kara organized a trolly tour for newly engaged couples to preview four of Chicago's hottest venues. Each venue was decked with decor, fabulous food and yummy drinks. I took care of detail shots for Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum - which was "naturally" a perfect fit for me. Food for Thought did an outstanding job - loved the little lobster stacks! Hello Darling infused traditional flowers in a playful/contemporary way - as you can see the colors and arrangements were FAB!! Other venues included: Cafe Brauer, The Ivy Room, and EnVent. At the end of the tour there was cake and champagne at Smitten Boutique - Scarlet Petal adorned the shop with elegant yellow arrangements complete with fabric wrapped containers and jeweled vase wraps.

Fun in the Studio!

Earlier this month I hosted Jeremy Lawson (JLP) in the studio for a test shoot with Ford Models. We had a great day and Jeremy did some awesome stuff. It was so fun having Kiersten and Chase in the studio this past weekend. They were such troopers trekking to the studio in the snow with mom and dad! This session was all about Kiersten but we managed to get some of Chase's brotherly love. These two are so loving and I was glad to be able to capture their care for one another during the shoot. Nothing like the Tropics in the middle of winter! I headed out earlier this week to Garfield Park Conservatory to meet up with Dan and Jessica for their engagement session. Since it was about 7 degrees outside and covered with ice the conservatory was a great spot to keep warm. We had a fun tour including a trip down the kid's slide - which seemed to be a bit slick for those little munchkins - they probably fly down that thing! I'm looking forward to the wedding in October!

Well if you're going to do a session in the snow - Saturday was perfect. Tom and Courtney are planning a wedding out east so it was my pleasure to capture their Chicago stomping grounds for their engagement. We started out at their place taking Jersey, their adorable full of energy pups, for a walk down the snow covered street. After we ventured over to the steps of St. Vincent de Paul, this is where Tom had popped the question. One last stop on the list was North Avenue Beach. I was really excited to do some winter skyline shots, when we arrived I was even more inspired when I say how extremely calm the lake was. Ah Beautiful!!! Thanks you to for trekking out in the cold - it was so worth it!

I love when stories come full circle. Last week I met up with one of my favorite couples from 2006. I was so excited to shoot with them again and meet their ADORABLE baby girl. The session was filled with smiles and giggles. It was great to see their new family forming and be able to capture some great images to remember these special times.
